VPANC community outreach programs

Since its inception in 1989, Vietnamese Physician Association of Northern California (VPANC) has been a nonprofit organization. Along with the annual scholarship awards, VPANC has offered other community outreach programs such as health fairs, radio and TV shows. These activities aimed to provide the public with general knowledge about common health issues and to raise community heath awareness

              Weekly radio talk show

For 12 years, Vietnamese Physician Association of Northern California (VPANC) had broadcast weekly radio talk shows on various common health topics every Thursday evening at 7:15 PM on AM1500. However, we discontinued this program in December 2010 due to an unexpected increase in the rate of air time.

We had "Hỏi Bác Sĩ" weekly talk shows on four Sundays each month at 12:00 PM on radio station 1290 AM, from January 8, 2012 to June of 2019. Starting July of 2019 we switched to radio station 1430 AM.

                  Weekly TV series

Since August 2010, VPANC had been cooperating with VietToday TV in producing weekly TV series called "Ask The Doctor".

This TV program was broadcast  every Thursday at 7:30 PM and Friday at 2:30 PM on TV Channel 26.5 KTSF. The audience could also view it on cable TV channels 174.94 and 381. Due to various reasons, we had to stop this program since 2014.

          Community Health Fair
For many years, VPANC has held community health fairs. In these events,VPANC distributed health education materials, and provided free services such as lectures on various common health topics, flu shots, screening blood tests, blood pressure check, eye examination.
Since 2009, our community health fairs have become annual events which have attracted large numbers of attendees. Each year, it had a new record in the number of  attendees as well as volunteers including physicians, pharmacists, nurses and others. We have also provided more services including health advice from a panel of specialists, screening blood tests for Hepatitis B, screening bone density scan, entertainment. All of the services are free of charges.

          Scholarship Award Program

VPANC has given Scholarship Awards annually to senior high school students of Vietnamese origin for the past 27 years.

Our scholarship award program was established in 1995. It has since been funded exclusively by contributions of physician members of our association and some local physicians in the community. Each January, we announce the scholarship program for the year in media and in this website.

The Scholarship Program aims to recognize and encourage Vietnamese high school seniors heading to college with superior academic achievements who have also overcome great financial need.  The program fosters a sense of community pride and raises awareness so that students can take a more active role in the Vietnamese American community later on in their life
